Recipe: Asparagus - Cheese Bake

1 package (10 ounces) frozen asparagus cuts
6 slices sandwich bread
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (about 4 ounces)
1 small onion, chopped (about 1/4 cup)
4 eggs
2 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
Dash of cayenne red pepper

Cook asparagus as directed on package. Cut nine 2-inch circles from bread
slices as pictured. Tear remaining bread into small pieces and place in
ungreased baking dish, 8x8x2 inches.

Heat oven to 325°. Layer asparagus, cheese and onion on bread pieces. Top
with bread circles. Beat eggs, milk, salt, mustard and red pepper; pour on
bread circles (see Timing Tip). Bake uncovered until center is set, 1 hour
to 1 hour 10 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.
