Recipe: Apple Breakfast Bar

APPLE BREAKFAST BAR

1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup raw oats
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
11/2 teaspoons apple pie spice
11/2 cups grated, unpeeled Michigan Apples
1 egg
1/3 cup light corn syrup
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flours, oats, brown sugar, salt, soda
and spice. Add remaining ingredients, mixing until thoroughly combined.
Spread evenly 9-by 9- by 2-inch baking pan sprayed with nonstick cooking
spray. Bake in a 350* oven for about 25 minutes or until light golden brown
and wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool completely on
wire rack. Store tightly covered in refrigerator.
