Recipe: Caramel Shortbread

4 ozs butter or 5 ozs margarine
1 egg
1 pinch salt
1 cup walnuts
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups SR Flour
1 cup dates
Warm butter or margarine, add sugar and cream, add egg, then SR flour,
dates and nuts. Press into tin (slice tin) and cook in moderate oven and
while still warm cover with caramel icing.
