Carne Gisada Con Papas (Meat And Potatoes)
3 lbs. round steak, 1/2" thick
2 lbs. potatoes
8 oz. can tomato sauce
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1 large clove garlic, smashed
Cut round steak into cubes and brown in shortening in heavy skillet
or Dutch oven. Peel and cube potatoes into about 1/2" cubes. Once
meat is slightly browned add potatoes and continue to brown. (Don't
worry if it sticks to the bottom of the skillet.) Add tomato sauce,
salt, pepper, cumin and garlic. Add about 1 cup water and simmer
untilmeat and potatoes are tender. Potatoes will thicken sauce.
