Recipe: Mama Steve's Bread Pudding
Advertisement:
2 cups (475 ml) biscuit crumbs
2 cups (475 ml) milk
1/2 cup (125 ml) partially melted butter
1-1/2 cups (350 ml) sugar
1 tsp (5 ml). vanilla
4 slightly beaten eggs
spices, optional
raisins, optional
Preheat oven to 400 degrees (200 C.).
Mix together the sugar, milk, eggs, butter and vanilla.
Place the biscuits, (they always used leftovers) in a large buttered
casserole dish,(it needs to be large enough dish, that when you put all the
ingredients in it, that the dish is only about 1/2 full, because it doubles
in size).
Pour the milk mixture over it.
Mix slightly. Mixture should be about the consistency of fresh uncooked
cornbread dressing, (and for you non-Southern people, I don't know what to
tell ya'll to compare it to, just I guess, thick but soupy).
Put a pan of water on the lower shelf of the oven.
Then put the baking dish in the middle of the oven, uncovered.
Bake for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until when you stick a knife in the
middle it comes out fairly clean. It will still be a little juicy on the
edges, but it will finish cooking after you take it out.
