`I vant to drink your blood' soup with Hallo-weenies
Yield: 4 servings

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 all-beef hot dogs, sliced into thin discs
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 jalapeno, minced
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes with juices
1 can (10.7 ounces) condensed tomato soup
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) each: low-sodium chicken broth, great Northern beans
1 teaspoon salt or to taste
Freshly ground pepper
Halloween croutons, optional, see note

For Hallo-weenies, heat 1 teaspoon of the oil in a Dutch oven over medium
heat; add hot dog pieces and fry, turning once with a spatula, until browned
and crisp, about 2 minutes. Set aside on paper-towel lined plate.

Heat remaining 2 teaspoons oil in the Dutch oven over medium heat. Add
onion and jalapeno; cook until they soften, about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes,
soup, broth, beans, salt and pepper to taste; cook until ingredients have
warmed through, about 10 minutes. Pour soup into bowls; garnish with
reserved hot dog discs. Add croutons on top of each bowl--if you dare.

Note: To make Halloween croutons, cut out holiday shapes from toasted bread
slices with cookie cutters or kitchen shears.
