Recipe: Gooseberry Pie

3 cups gooseberries
11/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
pastry for double crust pie
1 tablespoon butter
Combine gooseberries with 1 cup sugar and the water and cook until
berries are tender. Sift remaining sugar and flour, salt and spices
together. Stir into cooked mixture and cool. Line pie pan with pastry
and pour in filling. Dot with butter. Cover with top crust and bake
at 450° for 10 minutes. Reduce to 350° and bake 25 minutes longer.
